Your name
Yesterday was Day 27 and I managed to get myself in here. Well, sort of. As much as I wanted this to be a self portrait project, it hasn't been the easiest thing to execute. I'm hoping I'll find a list more fitting to the self portrait series idea -- I really want to do one -- until then, I'll keep trying.
Key
Okay. I fell a little behind again. I'm sorry. I know you guys probably don't really expect a post every day but I still feel like I'm being lazy; life just gets the better of me some days. We're in the home stretch though. This is Day 26 -- Key -- a little key to I have no idea what, from a jewelry box full of spare keys I got when my grandma passed. I like to imagine there's a little box or long-lost diary out there, just waiting for this key to find it & reveal all the secrets it holds.

Breakfast
It's Day 25 already & today is all about breakfast. Or the lack thereof, really. Don't judge me. It's just not nice.

An animal
I suppose I could post a picture of one of the boys here and not get too much flack for it but I can't do it. They are wild. They do act like animals. Often and very, very loudly. But we have actual, real-life animals in our house and I rarely ever feature them on here. Or even talk about them. Now, I know it says "AN animal"; I don't care. We have two & I'd feel way more guilty than you'd think if I left one of them out. Jay brought Knowledge with him when we started dating. He's a cat. Specifically a Maine Coon. He's ten this years, spends as much time outside as he can (meowing at the neighbors' doors, sitting on their cars etc.) and sometimes brings home those famous cat "presents". Three years ago this month, we got Lexi the Chihuahua. She shakes, she bolts out the door to chase cats, she pees when she gets excited. Yup. She's a Chihuahua.

Moon
This is when I wish the camera gods would miraculously bestow me with a DSLR. I know if I had one, shots like this one would be oh-so-much better! Alas, even if the gods of photography did deem me worthy, it'd still take me FOREVER to learn to use the thing...Oh, the woes. I caught this glorious Mother Moon coming home from Sac State last week, just by chance, thinking I might be able to use it somewhere, at some point in time. And I'm glad I did because on the list for today was, of course, "Moon". Hope you enjoy her beauty as much as I did (and do.)

Kitchen sink
Funny. Since I just posted my kitchen as Before/After. Oh well. This one is all natural. This is what I woke up to this morning. I've added to it; random coffee cups left abandoned when they ran dry, bowls of this mornings' breakfast that went soggy long ago. A sippy cup that's been under the couch for who knows how long. In my house, it seems there are two chores that plague me more than all the rest: laundry and dishes. Thankfully, I live in the 21st century and have a dishwasher to do most of the dirty work for me. Gotta love science & technology!
Before/After
If I'd been more aware of what was on this list, I would have taken pictures the last time Jay did my hair. I wasn't though, so now you get to look at something much more boring. My kitchen. It's nothing special. This isn't going to be some dramatic remodel or even a cheap re-decorating. It's something much more simple; something I do every day. Okay, almost every day. I cleaned.

Funny
While I'm still not that great at posting every day, I will pat myself on the back for not slacking as much as I was. I really do enjoy blogging & it's not that hard to come up with a few lines when given a subject matter -- especially when it happens to be one like today's -- Funny . In my world, I could go a million ways with this one because so much of my life could fall under some definition of that word. One major piece of "funny" in my day-to-day is this guy; even when I want to throw things at him, he can still make me laugh (That's a good thing for him since it totally limits my ability to aim accurately).

A Corner of Your Home
We've made it all the way to Day 18 -- A corner of your home. Since I spend so much time at the computer, I figured I needed to share our "office" with you. It counts as a corner because it exists in our house but it is not an actual corner. It's not the most comfortable space to do much of anything but that just inspires one to work (or play) faster.
Green
Green -- easily one of my favorite colors -- the color of new leaves, new life; the color of Spring. Green is suppose to induce feelings of relaxation, reduce stress & anxiety levels and is universally known as the color of "safety". In many cultures, worldwide, green is associated with regeneration, eternal life, paradise, virtue & wisdom. It's the color of luck, fertility and there's is definitely a reason our money is green. The profit Mohammad is said to have worn a green cloak & turban and houses in Ghardaïa, Algeria are painted green to show the occupants have made the pilgrimage to Mecca. To this day, the green & orange of St. Patrick's Day represent the divide between Irish-Catholics (green) and Irish-Protestants (orange). Green occupies more space in the color spectrum visible to our eyes than any other color and is second as a favorite color only to blue. I guess this means it really is good to be green -- unless you happen to be my hideous French press...

Sunglasses
We've made it up to Day 16. That means we're halfway through this challenge. Since the first half came in a wave of like, two days, I'll be more disciplined about posting daily. Today, the shot is 'Sunglasses' -- something I'm rarely seen outdoors without -- so I know I have a ton I can lean back on BUT I'M NOT GOING TO! It's been sunny that last few days & it's sunny again today; I don't need much more than that to plan a trek to the park. It's only Day 2 of Spring Break & I'm already feeling a little stir-crazy. Not a good thing.

Car
This is it. I'm all caught up! I'm up-to-date and current as of this post. This post right here. Which happens to be Car. Ugh. I'd like to use a shot form the move down here but it's almost three years old now & I'm crying in it. I've been cutting corners to catch up and honestly, I can't seem to let myself slide on this one. I really should too because this picture isn't going to be pretty. I try to keep my car clean BUT I have two kids who use it as a mobile toy box/lunch box/garbage can and let's be honest, where else am I suppose to throw all my gas receipts? I don't want to admit the disgusting state of my Jeep accurately reflects me (and my current state of mind) but, in a way, it does. So before I go sweeping my imperfections under the rug, here's a revealing glimpse at my "dirty" side.

Clouds
I snapped this one at the park the other day. Phoenix was at school so Jay, Paxton & I went with the neighbors & another friend. It's not far from the house & it was a nice day so we walked the dogs and just strolled along the creek. Super glad we did too because the next day, we got hit with rain. Hard. It's getting sunny again, sort of, but the clouds we have today aren't the pretty fluffy kind. They're just gray.
A Sign
Believe it or not, I have a few pictures to choose from here; none are recent and none of them are self portraits BUT I'm not about to walk around my neighborhood with my tripod -- not a good idea. It's kind of funny that I have two pictures I'm torn between so I'm not going to decide; I'm just going to post both of them. The first is from a family vacation & is one of my favorite places EVER. The second is closer to home; it was an intersection I crossed every day on my way to & from work.

Someone You Talked to Today
Tuesdays & Thursdays are now dedicated to Phoenix's CAPD clinics at Sacramento State so Jay & I spent the night dividing our attention between the boys. Jay chased Paxton around campus while I waited for Phoenix in the waiting room. It was so rough, sitting there reading my book, while Jay ran around in the cold drizzle with a baby who gets buzzed off fresh air. It also happens that Jay snapped some super cute pictures of Paxton & since I did technically talk to him, I'm using one. Yes, I realize it's not a self-portrait. It's probably better.
Loud
Since I've got an absolutely P-E-R-F-E-C-T picture for this one, I didn't bother going crazy attempting to capture another one. In this house, LOUD is an every day (almost ALL day) occurrence; there's no need to go seeking it out or creating it. It just happens. He may be small but he packs a hefty set of lungs and he seems to enjoy exercising them at every opportunity. I still love him though; I mean, look at him! Even in mid-scream, he's so adorable.
| Completely unedited to show you the little ball of fury that is my youngest son, Paxton. |
Red
This one was really a no-brainer for me. I don't think I need to say much more than Day 9 was 'Red'. Minimally edited to give you a red as close to truth as possible. Oh. Yes.
Window
I like the way this shot turned out; it wasn't one I expected to use but when I saw it edited, I decided it was The One for today...er, this post. We don't have many windows since we're smashed between two other units but we do have a door in our bedroom that leads onto a tiny 'balcony' and it has windows. So there. It counts.
Something You Wore
Day 7 has me sharing a piece of my wardrobe with you. It's nothing all that impressive; I don't wear brand names, unless they're hand-me-downs or thrift store finds; I don't have a million accessories or shoes (even thought I wish I did) but I like to think I have some kind of "style". This is one of my favorite go-to outfits, especially for these weird cold-then-hot Spring days. Black jeggings with a black stretchy tank & hot pink cardigan and my black Fuggs; it's been raining a LOT lately so the only thing I could reasonably to with my hair last week was this lovely ballet dancer-type up-do.
